Amara Gold Everlasting is an eco-friendly company that makes beautiful fine gold & silver jewelry without disturbing a single meter of the earth. The Amara fine jewelry collection is 100% renewed which is created using a carefully crafted recycling process.

I purchased the Boho Bead Chain earrings and they are superb quality. The attention to detail is apparent to every component including the back of the earrings. These earrings are very elegant with a bohemian style and contemporary flare.

The designers at Amara Gold Everlasting uses various colors of recycled precious gold & silver in multi, rose, white gold, and yellow gold. They make bracelets, charms, earrings, necklaces, and rings. This jewelry is gorgeous for special occasions or for someone special. Look fabulous and feel great about it.

I remember…

Do you remember where you were on 9/11? I woke up and I was on call for work. I called in and my boss said “Planes in NY. No work, gotta go. Everyone is freaking out!” Then, she hung up. I had no idea what she was talking about until I turned on the television. The imagery was so surreal and haunting. I will never forget…

Seventh Generation Laundry Detergent in a cardboard bottle

Are you tired of lugging around those heavy, plastic, wasteful laundry detergent bottles? I know I am. There are a few alternatives available when it comes to eco-friendly laundry soap. I want to experiment with them all.

I finally had the opportunity to try the new Seventh Generation Natural 4X Laundry detergent. The compostable bottle is available in many natural food stores around the country. The new bottle uses 66% less plastic than a typical 100 oz laundry form and is completely recyclable! The inside is a small plastic bag filled with detergent. When it is gone, then the bottle breaks apart and can be recycled or composted. The detergent itself works well, and I’m happy with the results. I also like the idea of less waste.

eco household lubricant

Last year I saw LubriMatic at the Go Green Expo and learned about their products. I got a small 2 oz bottle of their household oil to use on door hinges, etc… It worked ok and I like the idea of it being non-toxic, bio-based, earth friendly and biodegradable. I don’t know if it works as well as the petroleum based lubricants, but it is a good alternative.

LubriMatic Green™ biobased greases, oils and spray lubricants are professional grade, environmentally friendly products manufactured from renewable U.S.A. grown crops. LubriMatic Green products reduce friction, heat and wear better than petroleum based products and are safer to use.

Update: They have updated their brand to UltraLube http://www.ultralube.com or on facebook.

Upcycled Statement Jewelry

I’ve shopped on etsy for years and since I opened my shop a couple weeks ago, I have been on there more frequently. There are some amazing artists making eco-friendly items. I discovered this shop who makes jewelry from soda cans. I got one of the necklaces and I absolutely love it. I know some of you may think the edges will cut you, but don’t worry, she sands down the edges until they are fine to the touch.

Check out her shop:

Here is her more info:

Upcycled Statement Jewelry is an artist with a need to create jewelry by recycling. Each piece of jewelry is designed, hand-cut, embossed and assembled by Jill. She recycles and re-purposes aluminum cans from drinks consumed by family and friends.

Her goal is to make the world a little greener with style.

Tip: Recycling one aluminum can saves enough energy to run a 100-watt bulb for 20 hours, a computer for 3 hours, or a TV for 2 hours. (EPA, 2008)

snackTAXI

Post by Stacy Rockwood of Eco-Napkins

Get the groove on.  Now run your fingers down the line.  Click, snap.  Did the yellow and blue make green seal?  Or maybe you have the pink and blue make purple double zipper seal?  What goodies do you put in your Ziploc or generic brand plastic baggies?  Foods, travel soaps, trinkets or save-it-for later whatnots?  I put everything in plastic baggies.  They are safe, leak-proof and protect from the outside world.  Who doesn’t love the simple, yet dynamic function of a Ziploc bag?

But, they’re single use plastic.  I tried to be more environmentally conscious by washing and reusing my plastic baggies until they had micro holes in them or until the peanut butter honey sandwich smears just couldn’t be washed out.  Then, I found something better!  snackTAXI.  This product had all the qualities of a Ziploc plastic bag, without the waste factor.  The peanut butter honey goo also easily washed off over and over!  snackTAXI is the original reusable snack and sandwich bag company (since 2003).  Their bags are durable, adorable and affordable.  They cured me of my addiction to wasteful Ziploc bags.

snackTAXI bags are lined with nylon on the inside and extremely easy to wash.  All of their materials are lead, phthalate and BPA free.  The outside is made of a large selection of cotton prints.  The company will soon offer organic cotton and they are working on acquiring recycled nylon for the inside lining.  They fold over and close securely with Velcro.  Therefore, that dependable security seal ‘click, snap’ sound is replaced with the distinctive, yet titillating, ‘ripping’ sound.

Challenge yourself to try something new.  Instead of buying a box of 40 plastic throw away items, buy one single product that you can reuse over and over.  You will feel really good about it because your expenses overall will be less and so will your ecological footprint!

Chews Your Cause

I was at the pet store and I always scope for eco-friendly dog toys & products. I was looking for a treat dispensing toy and found one made by Dura Doggie™ designs. I was impressed because it is eco-friendly, recyclable, non-toxic, donates to charities, FDA approved, and made in the USA. My dog loved her new pink ball, which donates 20% of the profits towards fighting Breast Cancer. I’m sure if she could talk, then she would appreciate my efforts.

Here is a little more info from their site:

Part of Dura Doggie’s “Chews Your Cause” Campaign, the Nebo Ball comes in Pink, Blue, Green, and Orange colors. Based on the color you “chews,” we will donate 20% of our profits towards one of four charitable causes: fighting breast cancer, saving animals, saving the planet, or fighting diabetes. We invite you to have fun and support these causes at the same time!

Recycled Juice Pouches

I’ve seen & own similar juice pouch products, although I really love how creative Laura Locke is with her LL Design products.

Laura & her son started collecting juice pouches from the kids at his school during lunch. They wanted to make placemats as gifts for family and friends and it soon turned into a passion of hers. Now, in addition to place mats, pencil pouches, and lunch bags, she makes one of a kind bags and purses that are fun and stylish. She uses thrift store finds and reuses old items, so she never makes the same bag twice. Each bag is considered a work of art.

She is passionate about recycling plastic juice pouches. She even has tutorials on her blog that gives you step-by-step instructions on how to make your own bags. Her products explore the world of art, design, and recycling. Check out her blog, Etsy store, and on Facebook.

English Retreads

I was very impressed with my English Retreads handbag. The quality is extremely nice and very sleek. When I first received the handbag it had a very strong rubber smell. After it aired out then the smell went away. English Retreads makes very stylish, eco-friendly handbags and accessories. They re-purpose inner tubes collected from local truck stops. Their products are cruelty-free, vegan, socially and environmentally conscious, unique and have a low impact on the environment. They are made in Boulder, Colorado. These bags are very nice and you should check them.
